Hello Spartans Family, In pursuit of our Emery High School Vision, the following focus areas, and expectations have been put into place. These focus areas were identified by gathering input from students, analyzing student outcome data, and conducting a self-study and identifying our strengths and Focus Areas for the 2017-18 Academic Year: Improving Student/Teacher Relationships
All teachers will conduct biweekly 1:1 and group check-ins with all classes.
ProvideMore Support for Academic Mastery
Every staff member will offer office hours to support students after school and/or by appointment
During independent practice teachers will circulate, offer students 1:1 assistance with work, answer questions, and gather formative data in order to drive instruction.
Dedicate time to explaining grading system using fractions and percentages. (Taking any opportunity to use math – no matter how basic - in the classroom is helpful.)
Professional Expectations for Faculty We will continuously engage in professional discourse and actions around sustained improvement
Teachers and the principal will use qualitative and quantitative data to identify problems and propose and test the effectiveness of solutions.
Students will be Provided with Daily Rigorous Instruction of the Common Core/NGSS Standards
Teachers will identify and explain the common core state standard(s)and learning objective(s) for each lesson
Teachers will administer a formative assessment to gauge student mastery of the concept and use that information to plan for the next lesson
Instructional Focus of making claims and supporting those claims with analysis of multiple forms of textual evidence
Teachers will continue to make the instructional focus central in planning and delivery of lessons.
Teachers will support students in developing the skills of critical analysis, and using their findings to create a cohesive argument.
Effective use of instructional time and appropriate strategies
Students will be afforded opportunities for students to read, write, speak, and listen happen at regular intervals.
If students are working on a project that requires the entire block, benchmarking is in place to ensure appropriate progress and effective use of instructional time.
Effective checking for understanding strategies, explicit vocabulary instruction, and wait time are in place.
Continuous implementation of site-wide academic and conduct policies
Everyone on campus will adhere to and enforce site-wide policies and practices, and ensure students do the same.
