Green Team Owns JanuaryOur resolution is to make 2025 the Greenest year yet at Emery. Every day our Green Team (which by the way is accepting new members every Wednesday after school) is asking trivia questions, showing students and staff the flora and fauna of our town and offering prizes and recognitions for students who do their best work to keep our school and our community green. Look for us during the morning announcements and at lunch in the cafeteria all month long.
Artist of the Week ShinesThe photographer Jalissa Solano-Solis captures the essence of the Golden Ratio in her photograph of a rose. Though she initially finds the process challenging, she perseveres and discovers the joy in photography. The image exemplifies the Golden Ratio, a straightforward method to achieve balance and harmony in photos. By employing the Fibonacci spiral—another name for the Golden Ratio—Jalissa uses the photo of a rose to beautifully illustrate it through careful composition. The natural spiral pattern of a rose, which follows the Fibonacci sequence, aligns closely with the principles of the Golden Ratio, making it an ideal subject for showcasing this aesthetic concept.
Softball Tryouts all WeekCoach Elliot is not ready to rebuild, but ready to reload for the Spring. Softball tryouts are happening the week of January 13-17 on the field. We are taking all girls whether they have experience or not, but we intend to compete, so we need your commitment. Get your permission forms signed, adjust your schedule and be ready to wear the Blue and Gold. Emery is going to celebrate community all season so check MaxPreps for our schedule so you don't miss a pitch.
It's Your Move, SpartansWho is the King or Queen of chess at Emery High School? We are excited to sign up any and all interested in having fun and taking on challengers throughout the month of February. We will set it up like March Madness in a tournament style competition where we want everyone involved. Students and staff will battle it out on the board for supremacy. Sign up in the front office if you want to make your move.
Two Wheels of JoyLater this month, the East Bay bicycle coalition is coming to Emery High School with a special holiday gift--the pleasure of getting your bicycle back to shape. If you have been unable to get on the road, get ready to return after January. The Bike Mobile people are coming to school to get you ready. Be prepared to get flat tires inflated and grumpy chains greased and oiled to perfection. Our vision is that neglected bicycles will get a new lease on life and be ready for the open road. Teachers, staff and students, let's make this the bikeist year ever.
Making Music all Year RoundIn the words of choir director, Tom Salvatore, we now have a bumper sticker that tells the world what Emery High is all about. Look to spruce up your car this year with a message that will draw the attention and hopefully not cause accidents that tell people from the outside, something we already know namely that there is a pretty rocking band here and that they are in your town too. Proud of the work from semester one, and looking forward to more during semester two. A one and a two!
Dine in--Emery cafeteria dishes it up all monthEvery day is the best day in our school cafeteria. Offering free lunches to all (and free breakfasts too). You can see that our Ms. Parham and her skillful team make every meal one to remember. There are specials served too meaning there is no such thing as the same old thing at Emery. In addition, healthy snacks and grab and go fruit is always on the menu year round. We are lucky to have such a fine way to make meal teams good times at our school.
Algebra success for AllFoundational to any high school experience is success or confidence in math. Freshmen at Emery start in Algebra I but not all feel ready or prepared for the challenge This second semester we are prepared to offer a repeater class for students to pass the first semester along with the second semester class for those making progress. Hoping this year ends with a school filled with math joy

SpARTan Calendar 2025This is just one of twelve dynamic images for the 2025 calendar year and we are celebrating it with an Art calendar featuring a dozen images collected during the Fall from both Ms. Ruff and Ms. Crichlow's art classes. There is still time to get yours but you know what they say, days are passing. Come by the main office any time this month so you don't miss a moment.
Seniors helping SeniorsThe language of this generation is technology. The fact is though is we all live in a tech world. We can now have the students teach the teachers. We are looking for student volunteers willing and able to go to our senior center and help our elders to master the basics of the 21st century. Smart phones, speakers and iPads are all devices that may be familiar to our students but not their families. Let's bring it all together, and help bring your world to them.
Tutoring Now more than everWe are thrilled to be able to offer tutoring and office hour support three days a week at Emery High School. Students have Monday, Tuesday and Thursdays after school where they can work with their teachers and get one to one help, to retake tests and to solidify their notes. There is no invitation necessary. If you have the desire to find a great place to work, you've got it. We are ready for you.
Celebrating the Best of our Scholars Jan 17Thanks to Na'Lani Robinson who designed what will be presented at the Academic Rally in two weeks to celebrate students who achieved the highest level of academic proficiency in the classroom during semester one. The Honor Roll is limited to students who maintain a 3.0 GPA or better and have not failed ANY class all semester. We have many returning members and a handful of new inductees. We will see you in our gym that afternoon as part why we are celebrating!
Spartan speech kicks off new year at MLK tournament Mid month, the Emery speech team goes to the Martin Luther King Jr. Invitational Oratorical tournament. Our students are working on their way to the State and District championships later this spring but want to take this moment to honor the great civil rights leader and speaker. We will be competing to honor his legacy and create one of our own. Stay tuned
Building Career Skills at Rising SunWe had a great time at Oakland's Rising Sun academy where young adults and older ones recreate their pathway with work in the trades as a place to be. The Spartan upperclassmen got a chance to see the interns and new hires working in the classroom (doing math!) and in the field. And many of our students had a chance to do their own work, like those working on the saw. We loved the visit and for some students, maybe a glimpse at a career opportunity
Basketball sweeps the home stand this monthAll of a sudden, everything is coming up Spartan. The boys wrapped up a three game sweep after turning back Sterne of San Francisco on Wednesday night in the big gym A multipronged attack, inspired by shut down defense and converted into points made a first quarter blitz hold on. Meanwhile it was big Emery action inspired by a 32 point performance from Zyaire Jones who led to a big win over Leadership Public of Richmond. The boys are on the road for the rest of the month, but would love to see you back here on Feb 4th as they try to make it four in a row against Avorres High and a late push for the post season.
