Prom Season is nighA whole lot of magic is coming this Spring to Emery and Prom Night is when we shine brightest. Senior students should get their spot this week for the low price of $75 and the joy of being at the Emery where a beautiful evening for all is standard operation procedure. We want you and your friends to reserve your reservation and make sure that you know May days are all about dancing the night away.
Artists of the Week make it twice as specialThese spectacular mask figures made by Elijah Lambert-Levesque and Timeash Kirvin are made from cardboard which emphasizes the layering of the eyes, nose, and mouth with multiple colors for a bright impact. The body of the figure is first cut out then spray painted. The details (eyes, nose, etc.) are then hot glued on top of the body and decorated with paint pens. The overall final product is a unique design created by each student from their wild and crazy imagination.
Healthy Family Festival celebrates Emery's bestIt was a big weekend of joy and talent on display at the annual Healthy Family Festival at Emery this past weekend. Here is the band rocking it for all of our guests and community members. The crew was only part of the show as the Cheer squad did its best to entertain, inspire and get people moving. Kind of the point of the festival after all!

The best Defense is coming to Emery High SchoolThe community of Emeryville offers all types of services and businesses, and we at the school are ready to partner with all of them. The local martial arts studio is coming to school on Tuesday May 13 for a one hour session in self defense via martial arts. The first twelve students who sign up are invited to get a basic introduction, taught by a local practitioner who is a seven time black-belt and is ready to share her knowledge with us. We are lucky to be in the middle of things at Emery.
Making Music all Year RoundIn the words of choir director, Tom Salvatore, we now have a bumper sticker that tells the world what Emery High is all about. Look to spruce up your car this year with a message that will draw the attention and hopefully not cause accidents that tell people from the outside, something we already know namely that there is a pretty rocking band here and that they are in your town too. Proud of the work from semester one, and looking forward to more during semester two. A one and a two!
Dine in--Emery cafeteria dishes it up all monthEvery day is the best day in our school cafeteria. Offering free lunches to all (and free breakfasts too). You can see that our Ms. Parham and her skillful team make every meal one to remember. There are specials served too meaning there is no such thing as the same old thing at Emery. In addition, healthy snacks and grab and go fruit is always on the menu year round. We are lucky to have such a fine way to make meal teams good times at our school.
Tutoring here and 24/7Getting ready for the next report card means that you should be visiting teacher office hours and tutoring every chance you get. Fortunately that chance happens every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday after school, and when those times don't work, we have tutor.com which offers one on one instruction for every discipline (including a great writing review) on demand. The only excuse for not using it is if you are already dominating all the classes you are taking. In which case, take a new class, free of charge when it works best for you.
Football Returns to Emery |
Softball girls go hard in win over San DomenicoThe Spartan swingers head into a Spring Break with a head of steam and purpose after rolling over San Domenico 13-4 at Spartan field. Pitcher Alejandra Solano-Solis went the distance for big blue and the bats led by Brenda Villalobos (above) paced the attack where Emery scored early and often. The infield defense was strong and it was a beautifully played game for the girls who are aiming toward a playoff push to wrap up the 2025 season.
Seniors helping SeniorsThe language of this generation is technology. The fact is though is we all live in a tech world. We can now have the students teach the teachers. We are looking for student volunteers willing and able to go to our senior center and help our elders to master the basics of the 21st century. Smart phones, speakers and iPads are all devices that may be familiar to our students but not their families. Let's bring it all together, and help bring your world to them.
Game on--Emery's newest club beginsName your game and it's possible that Thursday you may meet your match or a new friend. Emery starts the Game Club Thursday in the conference room to bring people and players together. Interested in playing cards, maybe rolling dice, or planning your next move across the black and white squares. Lunch is short, so we are not talking Monopoly here, but we do want you to be on (the) board with us.
Roll it, EmeryWe are excited to bring bowling back to Emery. At least for one day. Taking sign ups in the main office for an adventure in bowling with your friends and classmates. There is no requirement for talent or skill, only for enthusiasm and fun. We are limited to two lanes worth of students--so the first ten that answer the call, will get the callback to the lanes.
GSA is BackEmery has had a long history and culture of support for each other. This Tuesday we add another chapter to this story. The Gender and Sexuality Alliance club or GSA is going to kick off their return with a club meeting in the Wellness center, and they invite everyone from all walks of life to become part as an ally or as an active participant. We are stronger when we have everyone together. Looking forward to our present and our future as one.
Building Career Skills at Rising SunWe had a great time at Oakland's Rising Sun academy where young adults and older ones recreate their pathway with work in the trades as a place to be. The Spartan upperclassmen got a chance to see the interns and new hires working in the classroom (doing math!) and in the field. And many of our students had a chance to do their own work, like those working on the saw. We loved the visit and for some students, maybe a glimpse at a career opportunity
Community is about us and College knowledgeBig fun and some learning at our annual Community College Carnival. Part of what made the week so engaging. Our students played games while earning prizes and candy for having knowledge of a variety of facts and figures about our two year post secondary institutes. Meanwhile the week was filled with information sessions, puzzles and quizzes and an application workshop to encourage students to dive in and find out everything that community colleges can offer and do for you.
Global Stars and other ScholarshipsEvery day is a day to qualify or apply for a scholarship for students at Emery. The one above is just a sample of what we have announced this week. There are locals who offer opportunities for students and then there are bigger entities but aimed at a particular student interest or passion. Scholarships for poets, for young women, for students of color, for military families and more. Something for everyone, with the chance to make it big when taking the next step
